These terms apply to chesscheckmate.com ("Chess Checkmate", "the site"), published by Fire Empire LLC, Atlanta, Georgia, USA ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Using the site

The site is free and needs no account. You may play, solve puzzles, analyse games and read the lessons for your own personal, non-commercial use, and teachers and clubs may use them with their students. You agree not to misuse the site: no attempts to break, overload or scrape it at scale, no interference with other players' games, and no use that breaks the law.

Fair play

Games against friends are peer to peer and are not monitored by us. Please do not use engines or other assistance in games where your opponent expects a fair game.

Our content

The lesson text, page design and logos are owned by Fire Empire LLC. You may quote short passages with a link back to the page. Chess moves, positions and games themselves are not owned by anyone and you may use them freely. Open-source components keep their own licenses, listed on the credits page; the Stockfish engine is distributed under the GNU GPL version 3.

Accuracy

We check our lessons carefully, but the site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. Engine evaluations are estimates, and puzzles and lessons can contain mistakes. If you find one, please let us know.

Third-party services, advertising and links

The site shows advertising served by Google AdSense, includes a small number of affiliate links that are marked where they appear, and links to other websites such as our merch store and YouTube channel. We are not responsible for the content or practices of other websites. How cookies and data are handled is explained in our privacy policy.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Fire Empire LLC is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited.
